My quick stab at depth, and i used it as an oppurtunity to take a crack at Tati as well. I've only seen 3 Tati movies but I enjoy them very much. Beautifully constructed and shot.
Oops...what's happening here? I don't think I've seen any Tati films, so I can only make the connection based on a little bit that I know about them as being somewhat farcical. Anyway, this is humorous in itself as he seems more fascinated than surprised that his hand is disappearing into the dripping painting. I love those striped socks! Now I need to find out more about Tati and see some movies!
Hey Carla The films are beautiful visually [and funny if you like light satirical slapstick] and the character Hurlot I imagined would not react to strongly about what was happening and possibly pretend everything was fine as he tried to remove himself from the painting. I just wanted to draw Tati but I was just trying to contrast a more flat coloured graphic drawing with a more rendered 3d painting.
Boy, Drazen! A Mario Bava poster on the wall (old post) and now you name check Jacques Tati. I absolutely worship Mr. Tati. Carla, get thee to a video store and rent (in order) Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (his most accessible film), then Mon Oncle and then Playtime, his masterpiece (and glacially paced, so be ready!).
Thanks Guy. I'd certainly agree with Michael in suggesting Mr. Hurlots Holiday first. Even if you don't laugh once the the shots are so beautifully composed and the cinematography so great its a treat to watch.
heehee...well you are supposed to read along with the book while dressed up as your favourite character and having built a suitable backdrop to sit in to get the full experience.
Great poster Drazen! About Tati, one of his best is "jour de fete" very funny story with a Postman in the French countryside, "Mon Oncle" is fantastic too, they're all good, maybe "Playtime" is a bit too long, but they all worth a look!

Ha, I recognized him immediately, even without his hat. Excellent take on the topic Drazen.
And carla, I urge you to see some of his movies, they're brilliant.

Love the colors and simple staging, Drazen.
This is a fantastic take on depth. Your work is very inspiring! Thanks!
This illustration is beautiful!! Nice creative concept
Great color on this one Drazen. Fun concept too. I am one of those who doesn't have a clue about Tati.
I saw your Fairy book in audiobook form. Somehow I don't think the illustrations are as effective just listening to them.

Hi Drazen,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Love your stuff, especially the gangsters. Fantastic work!
Up until now, I'd also never heard of Tati, methinks I'll have to check it out. Love those shoes and the pipe
Great stuff as always, Drazen! I love your work. Such a hip and classic feel.
