Earliar I posted an Oscar Wilde inspired pic and i thought I would post these charming illustrations from the childrens book of Wildes story "The Selfish GIant". Illustrated by Gertraud and Walter Weiner the books images are taken from their prize winning film of the story. The film came out in 63 or 64 I think, this book is an american edition ffrom67.
On saturday at a garage sale I picked up "You're MOre Fun than a barrel of Monkeys" with illustrations by Pete Hawley. Hawley is a fantastic illustrator and in the past over at Cartoon Retro there have been some great threads on him . I prefer his 50's pinup and magazine illustration work over his more cartoony work but I think this stuff is great too. And you can't go wrong with a monkey.
I'm by no means an expert on aviation history but I love looking at old photos of all the old contraptions folks put together in the 18 and early 1900's and eccentric pioneers who put them together. By no means accurate depictions just excerpts from a sketchbook.

Matilde Moisant is quite fetching in her flight gear (we should all be wearing little flight caps and goggles). Are you planning on fleshing this (flight topic) out more?
Great sketches, Drazen!
Very cool stuff Drazen. I love old airplane stuff too. These sketches have a nostalgic early flight feel to them. I dig it. Nice garage sale find too.
Hey Michael, thanks..no plans to flesh it out yet.
Guy, thanks..the people depicted and their names are real early flight pioneers and based on photos, I was just loose with my interpretation.
Asalways...Amazing sketches Drazen, you have such a nice style, lovely details in your sketches!
These are great, Drazen. So evocative. Makes me wanna watch Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or somesuch.
Pasto, Stef and uloo thanks. Believe it or not I don't have the Magnificent Men book, I have the Monet Carlo or bust/ Jalopies one tho.
Been a long time since I've seen the movie. I wonder if its any good.
It's such a joy to see your sketches. Wonderful characters, great style. Fab! (Sorry, had to delete the above, bad spelling)
Just loving your work Draz! You must paint these up! And thanks for the words of encouragement regarding my hair growth!
